Why Australia and New Zealand became our honeymoon destination?

Since the beginning of our relationship, I’ve always organized the trips that Fabio and I made. The fact that I work as a professional travel consultant certainly helped, but I always liked to surprise him with my choices. For our long-awaited honeymoon, it couldn’t be different ...

I’ll confess that flying for more than 24 hours to reach a destination wasn’t my first choice. It’s not an especially romantic way to start a trip, but I believed from the beginning that the adventure would pay off. Australia is not a common destination for most newlyweds here in Brazil, but in the spirit of surprising, we wrote and recorded everything along the nearly 30-day trip, and we hope that what follows can change some newly weds minds’ out there! So, here’s the first part...

The first and most important item for the success of a honeymoon trip is the happiness of the parties involved. You need to go to a destination that really leaves you two HAPPY with the decision! You’ve already chosen the best travel companion, so you just need to choose somewhere you can do a little bit of everything you love.

Fabio and I are an active couple who enjoy adventures and to get to know different places. At the same time, we were born and raised in big cities (Rio and SP), so we like the comfort and possibilities of the big cities! That’s how we arrived at our starting point: Sydney.

Australians know how to be happy in this beautiful city, modern and full of good restaurants, close to nature and to the beach...which you should go to even if it’s cold, like it was when we got there mid-june. We went to see Bondi Beach, a half-hour bus ride from Circular Quay (downtown Syndey) and ended up staying all day.

Anyway, traveling to places you’ve never been before is what will make the trip even more special! New Zealand for example was totally new to me, as was the famous Australian Outback. The latter usually falls outside the basic itineraries of those travelling from Brazil. The reason is simple: it's far! Any regret goes away when you see the most amazing natural monument I have ever seen from up close: Uluru! It is almost like a giant stone that appears out of nowhere in the middle of the red plain, and it makes every minute of flight worth it!

Look what we received upon arriving at Ayers Rock :)

I think the word adventure automatically brings New Zealand to mind. The country is known worldwide for the practice of extreme or radical sports. I, in particular, am not a fan of that kind of thing (bungee jumping /roller coasters / skydiving, etc) so we kept the adrenaline level pretty low during the trip, waking up early (very radical for Fabio) to trek in Uluru.

Enjoy the snow of the Queenstown mountains and snowboarding at Cardrona Alpine Resort.

and testing out our diving certificates to see the Great Barrier Reef from up close.

The two countries are in a perfect position for viewing a romantic sunset. This one is from inside the plane, crossing the Tasman Sea.
